Last day in America!

Last day in the states

Happy New Year 2014! First off, this is my first time ever blogging about anything so bear with me. For those visitors to my site that don't know me, I am an emergency medicine resident physician (so basically a doctor but still training in my chosen specialty- so a "baby" doctor if you will) at UT Houston/Memorial Hermann, busiest trauma center in the country, in my second year of training.

I have always had a special interest in global health considering I'm a first generation American from an immigrant family originating from a third world/developing country. That being said, I did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth to say the least. I think I chose emergency medicine in part because I love general medicine both critical and non acute, I enjoy indigent care and that it's the last stop if you have no where else to go... we'll take care of you!!!

Not to say that that does not come with the territory.  There is a lot of medical waste that happens and plenty of people abuse the system but for those that truly need it, it's great. That being said, I'm glad to go to a foreign developing country and learn how different medicine is practiced there.

Glad to have spent the last day of 2013 with my little residency family and ready to start 2014 with a bang!
