Last day in America!

Last day in the states

Happy New Year 2014! First off, this is my first time ever blogging about anything so bear with me. For those visitors to my site that don't know me, I am an emergency medicine resident physician (so basically a doctor but still training in my chosen specialty- so a "baby" doctor if you will) at UT Houston/Memorial Hermann, busiest trauma center in the country, in my second year of training.

I have always had a special interest in global health considering I'm a first generation American from an immigrant family originating from a third world/developing country. That being said, I did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth to say the least. I think I chose emergency medicine in part because I love general medicine both critical and non acute, I enjoy indigent care and that it's the last stop if you have no where else to go... we'll take care of you!!!

Not to say that that does not come with the territory.  There is a lot of medical waste that happens and plenty of people abuse the system but for those that truly need it, it's great. That being said, I'm glad to go to a foreign developing country and learn how different medicine is practiced there.

Glad to have spent the last day of 2013 with my little residency family and ready to start 2014 with a bang!

  1. I don't really know you but I'm actually glad that you wanted to give medical help to those in other countries who are poor. What's really sad is that you have these sites that ask you to donate money to people in other countries but the system is rigged. I was watching a documentary, I think it was Vice but apparently those so called donation helping sites and ads only start making more money for those companies whenever you donate that money through the donations. It goes through it and multiple company take shares of that money, and leave only a small fraction of that donated money left for the people who were intended for the donations. I hate this and these companies (which are the middle man of this situation) need to be cut out that way 100% of all of the donated money actually goes to these poor people in this country who need it the most. It just make me sick that some greedy people would go this far just to make some more money while people in third world countries are suffering right now.
